  • The Division of Chest Medicine has been established since the hospital started servicing in 1998. It has a staff chief and three full-time attending physicians currently and responsible for the services of the thoracic clinics and related wards. The treatment team provides a full range of diagnostic and treatment services for chest and critical care.
  • To provide modern medical services, the Diagnostic Room of Chest Disease was established in October 2009, and ultrasound, bronchoscopy, pulmonary function testers, and other precision medical equipment have been introduced to assist the diagnosis and treatment.
  • In the field of oncology, the Division of Chest Medicine and related departments (thoracic surgery, radiation oncology, radiology and pathology, Anning joint care team, etc.) maintain close cooperative relations to provide integrated care services. Besides, the lung cancer medical team is one of the eight major cancer medical teams in the hospital. Through regular cross-disciplinary meetings, the diagnosis, treatment, and disease tracking are more precise and complete, thus improving the overall quality of medical care services.

The symptoms of thoracic diseases include cough, dyspnea (wheezing), chest tightness, hemoptysis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, bronchiectasis, lung infections (pneumonia, tuberculosis), lung cancer, intensive care, and respiratory sleep disorders.

General and acute medicine

  • Provide outpatient, emergency, and inpatient services for patients with common chest and respiratory diseases.
  • Provide comprehensive professional and active medical care services for critically ill patients.
  • Design respiratory exercises and arrange rehabilitation plans for the individual outpatients and implement and track the effectiveness.
  • Detachment training for respirator-dependent patients and assist referral to appropriate institutions for continuous care if necessary.

Thoracic examination

  • Ultrasound examination: For diseases such as lung, thoracic lesions, and pleural effusion; provide treatments such as tissue section, pleural effusion drainage, and chest tube placement.
  • Bronchoscopy: Assess airway abnormalities; remove sputum and foreign bodies; collect sputum samples and parenchyma slices for reference in the diagnosis of pneumonia, cancer, tuberculosis, and other diseases
  • Pulmonary function test: Use expiratory flow chart and bronchodilator test to evaluate airway obstruction changes and severity.

Health Education and Public Health

  • Cooperate with the National Health Department of the Ministry of Health and Welfare to handle asthma, COPD, quit smoking, tuberculosis, and other treatment and health promotion programs.
