The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of ECK hospital

Hepatobiliary and digestive diseases are common health problems in Taiwan. Among the top 10 cancers, the leading causes of death in Taiwan occur in gastroenterological and hepatological organs. Thus, Gastroenterology and Hepatology Departments always have an essential role in medical service. Our Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology was successfully and well established under the guidance and support from National Taiwan University Hospital since its establishment. Since then, we have exerted to serve the residents at the level of a medical center. All attending doctors in the division are well trained and qualified from the medical centers in Taiwan. There are currently five full-time attending physicians. Four of them have teaching positions in medical schools, lead and teach younger doctors or residents, and medical students as an essential teaching hospital mission.

Besides outpatient and admission services, we provide ultrasonographic and endoscopic examinations, including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as liver biopsy, peritoneocentesis, capsule endoscopy, Hp study, hepatoma local therapy, endoscopic hemostasis procedures, upper and lower GI polypectomy, GI variceal ligation and sclerosing injectional therapy, and PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy). We also conducted advanced GI procedures, including ERCP, EUS, APC ablation for bleeding, GI tracts stenting, and dilatations.

We have a Painless ( iv sedation) Endoscopy Room to provide better services and a comfortable environment for endoscopic examinations.

The Hepatitis center of our division offers consultation and registration for hepatitis patients. We also provide various antiviral therapies for patients with chronic hepatitis B and C. We have successfully applied the new oral direct-acting antiviral agents to manage chronic hepatitis C patients with an outstanding result.
Clinical research studies have never stopped to be an essential focus for our department. We are currently conducting clinical and bench studies, and our research findings have been published in prestigious journals.
